    Acrylics
In the past acrylics had never been of any real interest to me as I didn't see a need for them.
If I wanted a thick impasto I used oil paints, water colours for light and airy pictures and for something a little stronger, pen and wash.
However, one day I was offered the chance of a few big tubs of acrylics at a very good price and at first, without giving it any thought, turned the offer down but something in the back of my mind must have sparked the memory of using black and white acrylic in the various life classes I used to attend, so I took up the offer on the black and white paints.
For a couple of years I have had some large canvases in my studio that I have been reluctant to use, never having found a picture I love enough to justify the expense of the oil paints needed for such a large area.
Taking one of these canvasses and with no real aim, I just found the biggest pallet knife I had and started spreading paint around on the canvas, it was such a joy to dig into a big pot of paint and not have to worry about the cost. Within 5 minutes I had made my mind up to go and get what ever primary colours he had in these big tubs, which I did and haven’t looked back.
