 Welcome to my web site. My name is Chris Bird and that's me in the photo above, hard at work, well that's what I tell everyone, it's a hard life but someone has to do it. My aim in painting is not only to paint the scene before me but to try and capture the atmosphere, to make the viewer aware of not just the sights but also of the sounds and feeling embodied in the painting. If you scroll down the side bar you will see examples of work. My pictures are mostly representational and always in traditional mediums, I sort of figured they got it right the first time. Watercolour; the crisp white paper adds a sparkle as the paint flows on, sometimes creating happy accidents. Oils; the way you can move thick paint around a canvas gives a kind of power to the painting. Charcoal, pencil and pen; for me they create an atmosphere and excitement to drawing.
